Mach’s gut, Jose, vaya con Dios!
Sunday, July 22nd, 2007I briefly interrupt my studying to say farewell to Jose Molina, who was traded to the Yankees today for a 26-year old AA reliever named Kennard. Jose Molina has always been one of my favorite Angels. His bat has never been something to write home about (although his ratings against lefties always made him my platoon catcher in MVP Baseball), but I have always loved his defense, especially how he throws behind runners (one of the most exciting plays in my opinion), and his great smile let me believe that he thoroughly loves the game he plays. While I understand and to a degree approve the deal from a business perspective, I’m really, really sad to see Jose leave. At least I (and he probably much more so) can take comfort in the fact that he was not traded away to a baseball no man’s land like Pittsburgh, but will instead play in the historic environment of Yankees stadium along with players like A-Rod and Roger Clemens, which is probably a very cool thing to tell your future grandchildren about. Good luck, Jose and farewell!
